And then there was one...

And his name is Saint Andre Bessett, the first Holy Cross saint. A special Mass and celebration at my parish here in Phoenix marked this incredible occasion, and with the Bishop present and Mass being bilingual, it was truly a blessing to be a part of it.

We can look to Saint Andre as a model in many things, but he is very importantly a reminder to each of us that God works through everyday ordinary people like you and me. Saint Andre was sickly, and he was definitely not at the top of his class. In fact, he had the job of a porter at Notre Dame College in Montreal because he wasn't deemed smart enough for schooling. But God worked through him, and many people were cured with the help of his intercession.

Let us remember that saints walk among us every day. I'm pretty sure I know a few...
